ARROWHEAD

2019-2020 Skystone

Our 2019-2020 robot, Arrowhead, consisted of custom designed robot. The robot was built in October-November 2019 and was used in the FTC NJ Robo-Joust Qualifier on December 8th. This robot used a compliant wheel intake and a ramp to quickly bring pieces underneath the skybridge. Additionally, Arrowhead has a foundation over that reliably moves the foundation in both the autonomous and endgame.

Arrowhead 2019-2020: Intro

We decided to name our Skystone robot Arrowhead. The process we used to pick thisname involved many steps, each with signi cance to our team. To begin the processof choosing a name for our robot we examined our teams theme- gears. We identified three main types of gears, each for a unique purpose. They are Parallel Axle Gears, Spur Gears, and Worm Gears. On our Skystone robot, we use a worm gearbox as an integral part of our arm mechanism. For this reason we decided to further explore the idea of worm gears. While exploring this, we decided to see if any worm names would work well as our robot name. During this search, we came across the Arrowhead worm. This worm had two other characteristics that helped it become our Skystone robot name. Firstly, it has been found living in New Jersey, the same place we live and compete in. Secondly, arrows are known to be fast and our robot utilizes a 40:1 driv-etrain ratio allowing it to cross the eld in under 2.5 seconds. We believe the name Arrowhead best exempli es our teams theme and robot for the Skystone season.
